Dean Phillips steps into the ring at the home of British Boxing the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Sunday to establish his place amongst Britain’s top lightweights. Phillips who faces from European champion Tontcho Tontchev knows nothing less than a convincing performance will get the attention of the boxing public.
Phillips at 30 knows time is not on his side in an exciting lightweight division, with Graham Earl fighting for the European title and Lee Meager and Dave Stewart fighting for the British title.
Phillips claims “I want the winner of Meager and Stewart. I know that I can beat either other, all my problems from the past are behind me, I am now with a promotional team that believes in me and I working regularly for the first time, so I want to repay my new promoters by winning the title for them and myself.
I will be looking to demolish Tontchev and end what was once a glittering career”
Also on the bill sees another lightweight Leo O’Reilly who also believes he can win the British title. O’Reilly takes on Silence Saheed.
With the talk of the two light-middleweights Woolcombe and Small in the Maloney stable fighting each other in will we see a dynamic lightweight clash between Phillips and O’Reilly and will this we be their final hurdle before one of them will be crowned champion.
