The fight for the WBA featherweight championship between champion Chris John and challenger Jose Rojas ended suddenly in the fourth round when the two fighters clashed heads. Both fighters suffered bad cuts and were determined to be unable to continue to fight and as such the contest was called off. The fight was held in John’s native country of Indonesia and Rojas only received a shot at the title when initial challenger and former world champion Derrick “Smoke” Gainer pulled out of the fight due to reservations about the climate that would potentially affect his performance in the stadium. Juan Manuel Marquez is the WBA featherweight champion proper and also holds the IBF portion of the title.
