Flying from his Puerto Rican-based home and training camp, the “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya touched down at Van Nuys airport in Los Angeles earlier this evening to begin the final week of preparation for his championship mega-bout against Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 6. This world championship match is being promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Don King Productions and will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
De La Hoya, flown stateside by private jet, was accompanied by Team De La Hoya—including trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr. and his brother Joel De La Hoya Jr. —as well as his wife Millie and new son Oscar Gabriel. “I can’t wait to fight,” said a fresh and ready-looking De La Hoya. “With my family and team surrounding me, I feel excited and extremely confident that I will capture another world title Saturday night.”
“I had a tremendous training camp. Everything went so well and I feel very comfortable and very fit at 154 pounds.”
De La Hoya will stay in Los Angeles to appear on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno Monday before heading to Las Vegas where he will make his grand arrival at the MGM Grand Tuesday morning.
