CES Holds Pro-Am Boxing Show May 18 In Providence

ByBoxing Press 02/05/2006

The first Pro-Am boxing show in Rhode Island history, “Let It Ride,” will take place Thursday night, May 18 at the Rhode Island Convention Center in downtown Providence. The headliner is IWBF lightweight champion Jaime “The Hurricane” Clampitt (16-3-1, 7 KOs) defending her belt against intrastate rival Missy “The Fury” Fiorentino (13-1, 6 KOs), the reigning IWBF featherweight title-holder.

Newly crowned National Golden Gloves 152-pound champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade, arguably the No. 1 amateur boxer in the country, boxes before his hometown fans against two-time Irish champion James Wasson, the Belfast native now living in South Boston. Andrade, who also is the 2-time U.S. Championships winner, and Wasson are 2008 Olympic hopefuls for their
respective countries.

In another outstanding amateur match, Mark DeLuca (Duxbury, MA) faces rival Nathan Busa (Newton, MA) at 165 pounds. Diego Pereira and Jesus Cairo are pitted for Rhode Island ragging rights and Providence’s 13-year-old Hector Colon also is on the card.

“We’re grateful to USA Boxing, USA Boxing/New England and matchmaker Jose Santos for making it possible to showcase some of the best amateur boxers in country on our May 18 show,” CES president Jimmy Burchfield said. “We have one Olympian on the show in Jason Estrada and a few potential Olympians in the amateur part of the show. We’re all very excited about making Rhode Island boxing history. Fans will have an opportunity to watch tomorrow’s
boxing stars today, so to speak, in “Let It Ride.’ And I honestly believe that the Jamie Clampitt-Missy Fiorentino fight will be one of the best ever in woman’s boxing history.”

“Let It Ride” is promoted by Classic Entertainment & Sports (CES) and sponsored by Lincoln Park.

“Let It Ride” will be taped live and broadcast on CN8, The Comcast Network. The event will air network wide on SATURDAY, May 20 at 7:00 PM/ET. The CES/CN8 announcing team includes blow-by-blow commentator Ed Berliner, former five-time world champion Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Paz serving as color analyst, and Phil Burton as ringside reporter.

Providence heavyweight Jason “Big Six” Estrada (5-0, 1 KO), 2004 U.S. Olympian, fights veteran Stacy “Bigfoot” Frazier (15-5, 13 KOs) in the 8-round co-feature of the pro card. WBC rated No. 18 super welterweight Ossie Duran (20-5-1, 9 KOs), of Ghana and now living in Providence, makes his U.S. and CES debut in a six-round Special Attraction,

Providence middleweight Richard “Bobo” Starnino (6-1-1, 1 KO) makes his first ring appearance in nearly 2 ½ years against Keith Sonley. Also on the undercard in separate bouts against opponents to be determined is undefeated Irish super middleweight Joe “Sugar” Rea (5-0, 4 KOs), now being trained by “Irish” Micky Ward, and Pawtucket lightweight Eddie Soto (4-0, 3 KOs).

“Let It Ride” is dedicated to the memory of famed Rhode Island-based trainer Robert “Tiny” Ricci, who passed away two years ago.

All bouts are subject to change.

Tickets are priced at $30 (general admission), $60 (reserved), $100 (ringside) and $150 (limited Jimmy’s Platinum Club). VIP table seating is available. Fans purchasing tickets for “Let It Ride” and the May 10th “Put Up or Shut Up” show at Foxwoods will receive a 10-percent discount.
