Naseem Hamed, who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in an earlier hearing, today was sentenced to 15 months in jail. The former world champion must serve at least half of that sentence and also observe a four year driving ban as the result of an accident involving three cars some 12 months ago. |
Hamed was attempting to overtake a Ford Mondeo when the crash happened, smashing up Naz’s £300,000.00 Mercedes sports car.
Hamed, who left the scene, told the court that it was in order to help his passenger, who was bleeding.
Regardless, the ruking Judge said…
“This is one of the most obviously dangerous manoeuvre any driver could make and Naseem Hamed has demonstrated persistent disregard to the motoring laws.”
Antony Burgin, who was in hospital for a month after the accident, was in the court and it was still very visible that he couldn’t walk properly.
Representatives for Hamed issued the following apology –
“Prince Naseem Hamed apologises for any pain, suffering and lost opportunity caused to Antony Burgin.”
