Peltz, Hand Sign Exclusive Boxing Contract With New Alhambra

Peltz Boxing Promotions, of Philadelphia, and Joe Hand Promotions, of Feasterville, PA, have agreed to an exclusive three-year deal with the New Alhambra Arena to promote boxing at the sports & entertainment complex, located at Swanson & Ritner Streets next to Forman Mills, in South Philadelphia.

“It has been a long, hard road from the time Alhambra Management and Peltz/Hand began our relationship to where we are now and we’re very satisfied,”” said J Russell Peltz, president of Peltz Boxing Promotions, Inc. “Our plans include opening the Philadelphia Boxing Hall of Fame inside the building as well as having boxing murals painted on the outside.”

Joe and Russell’s ability to produce the most exciting professional boxing events is unmatched. We’re excited to be able to work with them and bring our guests only the best.”

Peltz/Hand inaugurated the New Alhambra for boxing May 14, 2004, when super middleweight contender Omar Sheika, of Paterson, NJ, knocked out E.T. Whitaker, of Warren, OH, in the second round of the main event.

Since opening night, there have been seven additional fight cards at the New Alhambra under the promotion of Peltz/Hand. Those shows have been televised by CN8, ESPN 2 and Univision/Telefutura and have featured fighters such as Demetrius Hopkins, Miguel Figueroa, Mike Stewart, Willie Gibbs, Chazz Witherspoon and Olympian Rock Allen.

Their next offering will be Friday, June 16, when Rogers Mtagwa, of South Philadelphia, defends his United States Boxing Association (USBA) featherweight title against Artyom Simonyan, of Los Angeles. That seven-fight card will be televised by CN8 on a delayed basis (7.30 pm, June 24) to more than seven million homes from Maine to Maryland.
