Ayala and Oliver Headline At Mohegan Sun June 17

Mohegan Sun will feature two of Connecticut’s promising young boxing talents on Saturday, June 17th in the Mohegan Sun Arena. New Haven’s undefeated Elvin Ayala (14-0, 6 KO’s) and Hartford’s undefeated Mike Oliver (12-0, 6 KO’s) put their unbeaten streaks on the line in separate bouts. The action begins at 7:30pm. In the main event, Ayala faces Larry Marks (28-7, 16 KO’s) from New Castle, Delaware in a 10-round middleweight bout, while Oliver competes in an 8-round super bantamweight bout in the co-feature attraction.

Tickets are on sale now for $75.00, $40.00 and $25.00, and are available through the Mohegan Sun Box Office, and Ticketmaster. To purchase tickets, log on to ticketmaster.com, call ticketmaster at 860.886.0070 or visit any Ticketmaster outlet.

Super middleweight prospect Ayala is coming off a fourth-round knockout over Virgil McClendon on May 10, 2006. This marked Ayala’s second fight after an eight-month hiatus due to a broken hand. His first fight since the injury came on March 31st in the Mohegan Sun Arena where he earned a sixth-round decision over William Gill. Since turning pro in September 2003, Ayala has destroyed the competition, scoring impressive wins against Chicago’s David Estrada, Detroit’s Raynard Darden and Philadelphia’s Jake Rodriguez. Ayala is trained by former welterweight contender from the 1950’s and 1960’s Gaspar Ortega.

At 122 pounds, Oliver is an up-and-coming super bantamweight contender. Since turning pro in September of 2001, the 5-foot-5 southpaw has been battling through the competition in eye-popping fashion. In his most impressive performance to date, he picked apart Castulo Gonzalez from Wilmington, Massachusetts in the Mohegan Sun Arena on February 18, 2006.
