Undefeated light welter Demetrius Hopkins turned around a difficult contest last night in Atlantic City by knocking out opponent Michael Warrick with a single right hand in the ninth round on a Golden Boy promotion. The towering 5 foot 11 inch Hopkins, the nephew of legendary middleweight Bernard Hopkins, struggled to make the contracted weight limit for the bout and was clearly in a contentious tangle until exploding the perfect right cross that knocked Warrick cold before he even hit the canvas. Hopkins, 24-0-1 (10), is on a collision course for a world title opportunity after having fought his way through fellow promising light welter aspirants such as Andre Eason, Al Gonzalez, Jessie Feliciano and Mario Ramos as well a! s seasoned pros Ernesto Zepeda, Ubaldo Hernandez and Roberto Oretega.
