Welliver and Van Sickle Fight To Draw In Heavyweight Action!
Fight Night #53 took place yesterday at the Lucky Eagle Casino in Rochester, WA, and it was another thrilling display of boxing in front of a packed house. In the main event, heavyweights Chauncy Welliver and Chad Van Sickle fought to a majority 10 round draw. Welliver, of Spokane WA, was the aggressor, but slapped more than punished Van Sickle, 21-3-3 (12), of Grove City, OH. Van Sickle did land some powerful combinations, but the blows did little more than bring a smile to Welliver’s face. In the end, the titanium chin and lively style of Welliver, 29-3-4 (11), allowed him to steal a draw from his more powerful and polished opponent.
In other action:
Local hero Eloy Perez of Rochester, WA, defeated Daniel Gonzalez of Billings, MT, in a six round unanimous decision at lightweight. Perez was lightning fast and methodically wore down his brave and stubborn adversary. Gonzalez, 7-7-2 (2), made things interesting, landing some mighty combinations, however Perez, 6-0 (1), picked him apart in the last two rounds with unrelenting vigor. All three ringside judges scored the bout 60-53 in favor of Perez.
Heavyweight Vili Bloomfield of Everett, WA, defeated Channing Demontiney of Great Falls, MT by knockout at 3:09 of the first round. Bloomfield, 4-0 (3), calmly waited for the right moment and destroyed his challenger with a vicious right hook, rendering Demontiney, 1-3 (1), unconscious in the last second of the first round.
Light heavy Brad McPeake defeated Wayne Tyler by TKO at :45 seconds of the second round in a rematch. The fight was called when Vancouver’s McPeake, 2-9-2 (2), backed Tyler, 2-6 (0), into the ropes and unleashed an infinite barrage of punches to the head. Tyler, of Everett, WA, was beaten to the point were he could not lift his hands to defend himself, forcing the referee to jump between the fighters to stop the action.
Super middle Mathew Halvorsen of Billings, MT, defeated Ray Perales by TKO at 2:02 of the second round. Halvorsen, 2-0 (2), blasted Perales, of Nampa, ID, knocking him through the ropes and half way out of the ring. Perales, 1-2 (0), was slow to get up and after brief examination by the ringside doctor, was declared unable to continue.
