Speaking from his home in Pembroke Dock, Gammer was enthusiastic about his chances against the former world title challenger, saying: “I honestly can’t wait for this fight. I have always known that if I were to get in the ring with him, then I could beat him, and now I’ll get that chance. I’m not sure how much of a boost it is for me personally to fight a name like Williams, but this big fight will really be a boost for all the fans who came down to support me, and to fight in a bigger arena will give more people a chance to come and see the fight.”
In his fight with Matt Skelton, Danny Williams weighed in at 20st8 (288lbs), and looked ponderous as Skelton moved around the Brixton fighter picking up an emphatic points victory.
Scott added: “I hope that he does come into the ring at that weight again, but I really think he’ll have learned from his mistake and that he will be a lot fitter when I face him.”
Having boxed patiently while claiming the British title, Gammer exerted his power later in the fight, catching a tiring Krence repeatedly, and he will certainly be looking for a similar performance in his next bout.
Paul Boyce, Gammer’s manager said: “To be honest, I think that Matt Skelton would have been the ideal opponent for Scott, as he just isn’t able to deal with boxers, and I think he would be made for Scott. The problem with Danny is that you never know which Danny will turn up, he’s quite inconsistent.
“As Danny’s promoter, it will probably go to Frank Warren, and it will probably be held at one of the big venues. It would have been great to see it back at the Carmarthen Showground, where we won the title, but at a bigger venue, it will give more people the chance to see Scott.”
The British Boxing Board of Control have announced that a purse bid will take place for the fight on 9 August, and the fight is expected to take place before the end of November.
