Ajamu Looking To Drive Final Nail In Roy’s Boxing Career

ByBoxing Press 28/07/2006

All good things must come to an end so the saying goes. It’s time for one good thing to end and another good thing to begin. Saturday night at the Qwest Arena in Boise, ID it’s time for Prince Badi Ajamu to overthrow former pound for pound boxing king Roy Jones, Jr. who challenges for the Prince’s NABO light heavyweight championship in a 12-round fight shown nationally on Pay-Per-View.

Prince Badi (25-2-1, 14 Kos), known as “The Fighting Prince” hails from the legendary gyms of Philly and plans on taking Jones to the school of hard knocks that Roy has pretty much been able to avoid during his remarkable career. A future Hall of Famer, Jones has very selectively avoided opponents capable of turning a “fight” into a “war”. Make no mistake about it, Roy Jones, Jr. (49-4, 38 Kos) will find himself in a “war” Saturday night.

“I’m coming to fight, coming to win” says the Prince. The time has come for the end of the reign of Roy Jones, Jr. as one of elite boxers in the professional boxing ranks and for the beginning of the new reign of Prince Badi as the heir apparent as the premier light heavyweight in boxing today. The Prince is promoted by Silverhawk Entertainment and managed by Jim Rider Boxing.

The theme for Saturday’s championship fight is “Hold Nothing Back”. Prince Badi plans on bringing the heat from the opening bell and has prepared for the best Roy Jones has to offer.

“I’m preparing to fight the Roy Jones who defeated Bernard Hopkins, James Toney and knocked out Montell Griffin in one round. Roy is a man who is caught up in his goals”, says the Prince. “He is a desperate man on the rebound, chasing his demons, and he mistakenly thinks his fight against me is an opportunity to conquer his demons. Saturday night he will find out that I’m hungry, determined and dedicated. I’m on top of my game and his best days are behind him.”

In addition to being NABO champion, Prince Badi is highly ranked and respected by other major boxing organizations including # 5 by the WBC. #8 by the WBO and #13 by the IBF.

Victory over Jones will certainly prove that Badi belongs in the same elite class of the light heavyweight division as Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson and perhaps put him in line for a world title fight with fellow Philadelphian Bernard Hopkins should he decide to fight again and defend his title.

“Hold Nothing Back” is presented by Xyience, Inc. in association with Sports and Entertainment Media, Inc. The card will be produced and broadcast live in North America on cable and satellite pay per view beginning at 9pm ER/6PM PT by Integrated Sports and will be available in more than 50-million homes in the United States and Canada via InDemand, TVN, DirecTV and Dish Network in the U.S. and Viewer’s Choice and Bell ExpressVu in Canada. The suggested retail price for the PPV telecast is just $24.95.

Tickets for the live event are priced at $50, $100, $250 and $350 and are available exclusively at the Qwest Arena Box Office. For further information or to order tickets via credit card call 208-331-8947 or toll free at 888-730-8497 or go online to www.qwestarenaidaho.com.
