With the exception of Bunting, who tipped scales at 167 1/2 pounds, all the boxers weighed the division-limit 168 pounds

One of only four sets of Mexican brothers in history to win a world title, the Marquez brothers will be featured when the 20th anniversary celebration of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING continues Saturday, Aug. 5, on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast). In the main event, Juan will face World Boxing Organization (WBO) No. 1 contender Terdsak Jandaeng (24-1, 15 KOs) for the WBO Interim 126-pound belt. In a rematch, Rafael will put his International Boxing Federation (IBF)/International Boxing Organization (IBO) bantamweight belts on the line against No. 1-ranked Silence Mabuza (19-1, 15 KOs). Gary Shaw Productions, LLC, will promote the world championship doubleheader from MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa at Stateline, Nev.

TERDSAK JANEANG (24-1, 15 KO’s)
“I have spent the past three months training very hard for this fight. I have been jogging 15-18 km during these three months everyday and I am great shape. I have been training at the Top Rank gym and have been sparring with the current WBA champion, former WBA champion, and the #1 contender for the WBO championship. I am all muscle, no fat, and I have no fear. I have knocked out lots of fighters and will continue to do so.

“I feel that this fight will help me gain recognition in both my home country of Thailand as well as in the United States. The king of Thailand will be watching this fight and I plan on making him proud. He is a very big fan of boxing, and although I’m nervous I will make him proud.’’

JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ (44-3-1, 33 KO’s)
“Jandaeng is a strong and talented fighter. Strong and fast like all Thai fighters. I will box intelligently like always (but) just faster. I’ve been training with fast sparring partners to prepare for this fight. I am at weight and I feel very good. Preparation gives me confidence, and I feel well prepared.

“After six or seven years of not fighting together I am very happy to be on the same card with my brother. I am very proud of him. We get nervous for one another when we watch each other fight.”

RAFAEL MARQUEZ (35-3, 31 KO’s)
“We’ve sparred strongly, I feel physically perfect. I prepared better for this fight then for my November fight. I’m proud to have Juan Manuel for a brother. He is a great champion and I feel relaxed that he is by my side on this card. I’m happy, proud and confident because we are fighting on the same card.

“I know this fighter. I stopped him in the fourth last time and I plan on taking the win home to Mexico again.

“Having Nacho Beristain in my corner brings me confidence. He has years of boxing experience and is very knowledgeable.”

SILENCE MABUZA (35-3, 31 KO’s)
“I’m not training any differently. I’m preparing for the same Rafael Marquez that I fought before. I have five or six sparring partners ranging from 118 pounds to 122. I have been in the gym preparing for this fight since I beat Ricardo Vargas because I knew once I beat him I would be facing Marquez.

“I don’t take anything away from Rafael’s victory. At the end of the day he was the winner and I was the loser. I’m concentrating on the fight that is ahead of me.

“This is going to be a brilliant fight. I owe them, the fans, the American pubic a great fight and I am going to give it to them.”

NIC DURANDT (Trainer for Mabuza)

“We came back Tahoe to finish a chapter that wasn’t closed. We had to fight our way back for this opportunity. We are real about this. My fighter was offered two other world opportunities prior to this fight and he didn’t want the other titles. He wants to finish the chapter that wasn’t closed. He trained extremely hard for this fight. We know and respect what we have in front of us. We’re here to take from you (Marquez) what you took from us.”

The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings. I am concerned that Spence has not fought for years now and having no warm up. This may show that he has not much left and cashing in. Tszyu secured a one-sided unanimous decision wi […]
