Mares, Oquendo Added To 8 Count Boxing’s Next Show

“Independence Brawl” Set For Aragon Ballroom in Chicago on 15 September

Abner Mares, a 2004 Mexican Olympian, currently residing in Montebello, California, will battle in an eight round bout. Currently his record stands at a perfect 8-0 with five knockouts. His most recent win was a unanimous decision over Omar Adorno on February 24th at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mares was scheduled to make his Chicago debut on the Way By The Shore this past May but suffered an emergency appendectomy after the weigh-in. He is trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr., also the trainer of Oscar De La Hoya.

Johnathan Oquendo, 10-0 with six knockouts, of Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, returns to Chicago following his stunning third round knockout of Terrence Roy at Cicero Stadium on January 27th of this year. His exciting crowd pleasing style has quickly made him a favorite in Florida and Arizona, as well as Las Vegas. Most recently he thrilled Las Vegas’ MGM Grand crowd by knocking out Arturo Bracamontes at the Mosley/Vargas 2 event on July 15th.

Said Dominic Pesoli, “Both Mares and Oquendo have great futures and are very exciting fighters. I’m thrilled to work with Oscar to bring both of them to Chicago for the Independence Brawl event which is shaping up as a phenomenal card for our fans.”

“I’d encourage our fans to order tickets in advance for the best seats and I’d also like to remind them of the earlier start to this event. Doors will open at 5:30pm with the first bout scheduled for 6:30pm.”

Master of Ceremonies for this event will be the Internationally recognized voice
of latino boxing, Lupe Contreras.
