“Battles at the Ballpark” Saturday night Flores-Dydell co-feature, Mora-Hantindi in Special Attraction
The starting line up will feature welterweight champions Robert “La Ameneza” Garcia and Homer “The Nature Boy” Gibbons trying to knock the ball out of the park in their 10-round main event Saturday night at the “Home of the Roadrunners,” the Edinburg Baseball Stadium
.
“Battles at the Ballpark” is promoted by Julio Marines in association with Silverhawk Championship Boxing.
IBA Americas welterweight champion Garcia (20-2, 15 KOs) faces IBU 147-pound title-holder Gibbons (44-14, 31 KOs) in the non-title headliner.
Garcia defeated Juan Carlos Rubio (33-7-3) by unanimous 12-round decision for the IBA Americas belt in his last fight on March 10, 2006. Robert also has been the WBC CABOFE interim title-holder and Texas light middleweight and welterweight champion. Garcia is a Mexican native, now fighting out of Weslaco (Texas), is riding a five-fight win streak.
Gibbons captured the IBU welterweight title in his last bout (June 17), knocking out veteran Chad Broussard (54-4) in Louisiana. Homer is the former WBF light welterweight champion. The Georgia native has fought former world champions Jake Rodriguez, Hector Camacho, Sr. and George Scott.
WBF All-American cruiserweight champion BJ ” El Peligroso” Flores (16-0-1, 11 KOs), one of the hottest prospects in boxing, tangles with Midwest heavyweight champ Gary “Twisted Steel” Dydell (8-2, 6 KOs) in a six-round co-feature.
Another promising prospect, WBC rated No. 38 welterweight Adrian Mora (15-0-1, 8 KOs), will be tested by ex-WBA Pan African welterweight champion Frans Hantindi in a six-round
Special Welterweight Attraction.
Undercard bouts include former Texas lightweight champion Pablo Pena vs. Gilberto Elizondo (3-1, 1 KO), light heavyweights Raul “El Tigre” Cazares (10-2, 4 KOs) vs. Josh Burns (3-4-5, 1 KO), lightweights Mario Hernandez (4-0, 2 KOs) vs. Pedro Silva (0-1), Edgar Hernandez (4-0) vs. Efren Diaz (5-9, 1 KO). All fighters and bouts are subject to change.
