At only twenty-one years old, Houston’s own Juan Diaz is professional boxing’s youngest world champion. The undefeated Diaz will defend his WBA lightweight crown on Jan 21, 2005, in a highly anticipated, action-packed featured twelve-round bout against WBA #10 ranked contender Billy Irwin at Reliant Center in Houston, Texas. Irwin has suffered many opponents pulling out of his fights over the last year but his persistence has finally paid off and awarded him a title shot. Diaz won his world title against Mongolian champion Lakva Sim by a unanimous twelve-round decision earlier this year.
