De La Hoya Returns to Welterweight.

Oscar de la Hoya said he will not retire from boxing and plans to return to the welterweight division. De La Hoya said he has no immediate plans on future bouts but ruled out staying in the middleweight division, in which he lost his last fight in a ninth-round knockout against undisputed champion Bernard Hopkins. “I’m not retired at all,” de la Hoya told El Nuevo Dia newspaper in Puerto Rico. From 147 to 150 (pounds), that’s my natural weight. It’s almost impossible to do something in the 154 or 160 divisions. It’s too heavy for me.”
The Olympic champion in Barcelona in 1992 has ruled in held titles in six weight divisions, from lightweight to middleweight. He won the WBO middleweight crown on June in a lackluster performance against Felix Sturm, and later lost it to Hopkins in September. De la Hoya said he will decide his future in the coming weeks, but rejected a possible rematch against former middleweight champion Felix Trinidad. The Puerto Rican beat de la Hoya in 1999 in one of the most anticipated fights of recent years. “If he (Trinidad) wants to come down (in weight), the door is open. But it would not be very intelligent from my part to go up in weight,” de la Hoya said.
