Thompson Out, Mallin In For Rotherham’s Mansouri

Rotherham’s Nav Mansouri, who was due to step up against former British title contender, Mark Thompson, on October 4, was today left “majorly disappointed” as the Heywood man withdrew from the clash after suffering a cut in training.

Promoter Dave Coldwell has acted immediately though and has brought in Barnsley prospect, Matthew Mallin (9-1), for what should be an exciting derby clash for Mansouri’s English light-middleweight title. Although initially saddened by Thompson’s hard luck, Coldwell is now anticipating a potential classic.

“I was gutted when I found out the news because it was a fight I wanted for Nav as it really would have brought the best out in him, but Mallin is a replacement who has got me excited because I know what he’s capable of. This is a great clash of styles by two Yorkshire lads who love to fight and with the local rivalry thrown in, it promises to be an explosive fight.

“Mallin is a 100mph boxer and everyone will tell you that and you add that to Nav’s style then it means fireworks. The pair have sparred briefly and I could make a few quid selling tickets to those spars so I’m warning fans now that they won’t want to miss this one.”
Mansouri vs. Mallin for the English Light-Middleweight Title takes place at The Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield on October 4. The Undercard features a great mix of Yorkshire Prospects such as Maxi Hughes, CHad Gaynor and Joe Rodgers.

Tickets are available from www.coldwellboxing.com and the entire show will also be shown live on the Coldwell Television APP.
