Team Ireland arrived at their official team hotel – the Kazakhstan Hotel – this morning ahead of the 17th AIBA World Men’s Elite Championships which officially starts in Almaty, Kazakhstan today.
Boxing begins on Monday at the Baluan Sholak Sports Arena in Almaty. Michael Conlan has moved up from flyweight to bantamweight for Almayt.
Ireland’s nine-strong squad had a training and sparring session with the host nation, Azerbaijan and Cuba on Wednesday and a private training session yesterday.
A record 116 nation have registered to compete at the AIBA flagship tournament in Almaty. The draw will be made between 10am and 11am, Irish tim,) on Sunday morning.
The first session of boxing begins at 9am Monday morning, Irish time. There will be a further session at 2pm, Irish time.
