on several subjects. Will the eighteen-year-old marvel from Bolton, England turn pro? Believe it or not, that is not a guaranteed event. Obviously he is considering doing so but read on to see just what one of the brightest lights in British boxing had to say, exclusively to Saddoboxing.
Saddoboxing: What did you think of the Hatton – Oliveira fight that took place here in the ExCel Centre tonight?
Amir Khan: “It was just brilliant seeing Ricky Hatton in with a top class boxer. I think Ricky was fantastic the way he fought and Oliveira put up a good fight.”
SB: So you’ve resumed your amateur career?
AK: “Yeah, I’m back in it but I’m not really in a position to know right now what I’m going to do in regards to the future. But, I just had a fight and I enjoyed it very much. I had good support from everyone and I think sometimes about turning professional or staying as an amateur, but I haven’t really made my mind up yet.
SB: Do you have a generalized plan, nothing specific, but just a remote idea as to how long you’d like to continue on as an amateur?
AK: “I think that hopefully I can become a world champion in the amateurs and maybe get a couple of gold medals for England.”
SB: But not necessarily the Olympics and waiting four…
AK: “Well, four years is a long time and I’ll have to sit down and think about that, but I don’t know what I’m going to do yet. Four years is a very long time. I’m just going to take my time and go one step at a time. You never know, I might stop boxing and not ever turn professional.”
SB: Thanks Amir, we appreciate your taking the time.
AK: “Your welcome.”
