Irish Elite Squad Experiences Ups And Downs In Kazakhstan

The Irish Elite squad are due to arrive home from the 17th AIBA World Elite Men’s Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan via Dublin Airport on Sunday.

Jason Quigley and Joe Ward will be bringing home silver and bronze from the 100-nation tournament.

Quigley’s bid for gold ended in disappointment earlier today after he lost out on a unanimous decision to Kazakhstan’s Zhanibek Alimkhanuly in the middleweight final.

Quigley, 22, stands as the first Irish male boxer to reach an AIBA Elite final since the inaugural tournament in Havana in 1974 – after earning a unanimous decision over Russia’s Artem Chebotarev.
