It was a good evening of fights in England last night with British Super Feather Champion Carl “Ingemar” Johanneson turning back the spirited challenge of Femi Fehintola and ex-WBC Super Middle titlist Glenn Catley making a successful comeback after three years away.
At the Metrodome in Barnsley, Johanneson, 25-2 (18), proved too experienced for Fehintola, 14-1 (1), erasing the challenger’s advantages in height and reach with an unrelenting assault that simply ground down the Bradford man.
While Fehintola had his moments, at times shaking the champion with bracing single shots, the strength and will of Johanneson made the difference, canvassing the younger man a total of four times before the bout was stopped in the sixth to save Fehintola from further punishment.
At the Dolman Exhibition Hall at Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol, former WBC super middle Glenn Catley, 28-7 (20), had a happy return to the ring after sitting on the sidelines for three years. The hometown man stopped seasoned veteran Hussain Osman, 14-15 (6), of London in the third round.
Catley will now look to join the mix of domestic talent currently ruled by WBO/IBF Champion Joe Calzaghe and British/Commonwealth Champion Carl Froch.
