“Rockin’ Fights 11” Boxers Go Head To Head In Huntington

ByStar Boxing 22/11/2013

The Final Press Conference for Star Boxing’s”Rockin Fights 11″ was held this afternoon at The Paramount in Huntington, New York.

The show is headlined by a heavyweight battle between New York City fan favorite Vinny Maddalone, 37-8-0 (28KO’s) and hard-hitting Houston veteran Maurenzo Smith, 12-7-2 (9KO’s).

Also featured on the card in separate bouts are Long Island’s finest local prospects; welterweight Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin, 11-0-0 (9KO’s) of Brentwood, New York, Huntington lightweight Alan Gotay, 6-0-0 (3KO’s), junior middleweight Wendy Toussaint, 2-0-0 also of Huntington, Hicksville lightweight Anthony Karperis, 4-1-0 (2KO’s) and pro debuting light heavyweight Max Tassey of Nyack, New York.

Below are quotes from the participants

Joe DeGuardia, President of Star Boxing:

“The Paramount is an exemplary spot for professional boxing. They are the perfect partner to work with. We’re very proud to host the Final Press Conference for ‘Rockin Fights 11’ here, at The Paramount.

“Thanks very much to our terrific, longtime sponsors, Gold Coast Bank, The Fox Hollow, WBAB the #1 Rock Station on Long Island and Camelot Limo.

“This will be our eleventh straight, sold out event at the Paramount.

“This tremendous event can also be watched live on PandaFeedTV and also on the Star Boxing website, where former Heavyweight contender Gerry Cooney, former NYS Boxing Commissioner Randy Gordon, NBC’s “Biggest Loser” trainer Cara Castronova and Pandafeed’s own Marc Abrams will call the fights.

Vinny Maddalone
“I look at every fight as the biggest. I’ve been training hard for two months for this fight. The ring at The Paramount is electric. Similar to the Blue Horizon in Philadelphia, The Paramount is becoming the same type of venue, albeit much more classy and upscale. I’m looking forward to a great night.”

Maurenzo Smith:
“Boxing is theatre and entertainment. Two people in swinging, nothing like it. I have a lot of respect for Vinny Maddalone, feels like a crossroads fight for me. Typically I talk a lot of smack but I can’t find one bad thing to say about Vinny. He knocked out his last two opponents in the third round.

“Star Boxing matchmaker Ron Katz, did a very good job making this fight, out styles will mesh for a very good fight. I’ve got some speed; power and I can be slick when I want to be. This is like a real-life Rocky move. I’m ready to be Apollo Creed. I have had a lot of time to train for this fight and I am in great shape”

Cletus Seldin:
“Everyone knows I’m coming to fight and be aggressive. My rotator cuff is completely healed, from my surgery this past spring and I’m ready to go. Bring whomever you want and I’ll knock them out.”

Alan Gotay:
“Thanks to Star Boxing for having me back here. I’ve spent the last six weeks training in Florida. I’m ready to come forward and fight my fight.”

Anthony Karpersis:
“Thanks to Joe and Star Boxing for this opportunity. My last fight didn’t go as I wanted. However, I’m very excited to fight on Friday night and come away with a victory.”

Advance tickets, starting at $50, are available online through Ticketmaster (Ticketmaster.com), the Star Boxing website (StarBoxing.com) and The Paramount Box Office, phone (631) 673-7300.

The Paramount is located at 370 New York Avenue in Huntington, New York. Doors will open on the night of the event at 7:00 p.m. with the first bell at 7:30 p.m.

  • Kugan Should Retire! 16/09/2026
He’s Eddies mate and I know they’ve been doing interviews since before either of them really had a profile…but Eddie still gives Kugan wayyyyy too much latitude in the interviews that Hearn needs to resonate with the public. Kugan constantly cuts across him, with some meaningless aside, or to tries to get a rubbish ‘gotcha’, for no reason. There are better i […]

  • Ain't we all want to see Jai v David? 14/09/2026
Don’t we? Let’s cut all of the bullshit here. This is the only fight worth a $100 PPV buy, it’s Jai Opetai v David Benavidez. Canelo is in the background now. He is not worthy of paying any attention to at this point and time. Plus, since Crawford is retired, he is not worth mentioning either, even if he comes back to fight Boots… There is no other fight on […]

Conor Benn has been exposed as a no better than a Misfit fighter. He has just been destroyed in 2 rounds for an undeserved Welterweight world title. Conor has already managed to secure a multimillion contract from Zuffa which may be in jeopardy. As a res […]

I did it. Ran a half marathon in training last week Sunday. I did it in 3 hours, but I did it… lolol… I could do it in 2 and 1/2 hours though. For the first time, I walked a good bit of the distance… And the shoes I had on was not good for long distances. So, I started to get pains in my ankles, Achilles and ACL… But with the right shoes I can def do that in […]
