European Champion Michael Hunter gets a shot at the big time tonight in his hometown of Hartelpool, England when the tall, two fisted threshing machine meets unbeaten Canadian stylist Steve Molitor on a Matchroom Promotions bill for the vacant IBF Super Bantam title.
Hunter, 26-0-1 (12), hasn’t had a blemish on his record since March of 2003 when he drew with Marc Callaghan and has been on an impressive sixteen victory win streak since, including a win over Esham Pickering in October last year that saw the Hartlepool man crowned British, Commonwealth and European Super Bantamweight Champion.
Opponent Steve “The Canadaina Kid” Molitor, 22-0 (8), of Toronto is an impressive southpaw who is no stranger to England having traveled to Essex in 2002 to hand Nicky Booth defeat and take the Commonwealth Bantamweight crown. Molitor has also beaten the quality Mexican Hugo Dianzo and Colombia’s spoiler Julio Coronell.
Hunter won’t have his usual height advantage in this bout and will have to pull off the type of near perfect performance that saw him climb off the canvas to defeat Pickering if he is to walk away from this contest as a world champion.
