Don King Continues Comeback With Another ShoBox Card

ByBoxing Press 15/02/2014

In front of his hometown crowd, famed boxing impresario Don King will pay tribute to America’s great military, our fighting men and women, wounded warriors and veterans who have served as our nation’s vanguards in the protection of our liberties and freedom.

King, whose first boxing promotion was staged Aug. 28, 1972, as a charity event to benefit the minority Forest City Hospital at Cleveland Arena, King’s hometown featuring Muhammad Ali, comes back to Cleveland with “Cleveland Show for People Care,” an action-filled boxing event at the Cleveland State University Wolstein Center, Friday Feb. 21, 2014.

“For our great fight card on Feb. 21, we’re calling it ‘Cleveland Show for People Care: Let’s Do it for Cleveland, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.’”

Over 40 years after promoting the biggest boxing events all over the world the most famous heavyweight boxers such as Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes, Ken Norton and Mike Tyson, Don King wants to help Mayor Frank G. Jackson and his hometown Cleveland with a major boxing event featuring the next generation of young boxers and the evolution of future champions that will be seen by millions of sports fans all over the world and help put Cleveland, Ohio back on the map.

“It’s going to be a terrific night of fights, a dynamite show in Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s great city of Cleveland, in Gov. John R. Kasich’s great state of Ohio. We will be in a city and a state where people are the most important.”

“Cleveland is a great city and I want to thank Don King for bringing this event back to his hometown. It shows how much Cleveland has to offer and that we are a world-class city,” said Mayor Jackson. “And, it shows that Clevelanders never forget where they come from.”

Friday, Feb. 21 at the Wolstein Center marks the historical return of Don King to the place where it all started. This will be the 40 year anniversary of the “Rumble in the Jungle,” that pitted Muhammad Ali against George Foreman in Kinshasa, Zaire, known now as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the continent of Africa.

The first time Angelo Santana appeared on ShoBox: The New Generation he scored one of the most memorable knockouts of 2012. The second time, he suffered the only loss of his career in a shocking upset.

Now, in his third consecutive ShoBox appearance, Santana (14-1, 11 KOs) will look to regain his status as one of the most promising – and feared – boxing prospects of today.

But it won’t be an easy test as he takes on the more experienced Hank Lundy (23-3-1, 11 KOs) in the compelling 10-round lightweight main event.

Opening the telecast, live on Showtime at 10:45 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast, will be a 10-round super lightweight bout featuring one of the most exciting prospects in boxing, Amir “Young Master” Imam (12-0, 11 KOs), and Jared “The Quiet Storm” Robinson (14-0, 6 KOs) in a battle of unbeatens.

The electrifying, power-punching Imam has won 11 consecutive fights by knockout, all but one inside three rounds.

Tickets to the event – priced at $35, $75, and $125 plus tax and fees – go on sale Thursday, Feb. 6, at 5:00 p.m. ET and can be purchased through the Wolstein Center box office and website www.wolsteincenter.com or by calling Charge-by-Phone 1-877-468-4946.

Doors open at 7 p.m., and a full undercard will be presented prior to the televised matches.

The event is promoted by Don King Productions from the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio.
