Fury Backing Fellow Traveller Ward To Unseat IBF Champ Hall

Tyson Fury is backing Martin Ward to make history on Saturday by becoming the first Traveller to win a world title.

County Durham bruiser Ward challenges IBF Bantamweight king Stuart Hall at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena. And unbeaten heavyweight Fury is convinced his fellow Traveller can turn on the style and relieve Ward of the belt.

Fury said: “I met up with Martin last week and we had a good chat. He is looking really, really confident. The travelling community is a closely knit one and we will all be cheering Martin on in what looks like being a terrific contest.

“He can do it, of course he can. Then I will be following suit when I get my shot at the world heavyweight title.”

The 26-year-old Ward, who has won 18 of his 20 contests, is the Commonwealth champion and is positively oozing with confidence.

He said: “This is the great chance for me to make history in the travelling community and become a world champion. It would mean so much to be able to go to Appleby Fair this Summer with a world title belt, and my stock would rise among my own people.

“It is a challenge, but I have sparred with Stuey and I know what I have got to do to beat him. Stuey is a terrific fighter with a lot of heart but I know I can beat him. I am raring to go and pick up that belt, believe me.”
