Aussie Olympian Damian “Super” Hooper Wants London Return

Aussie prospect Damien “Super” Hooper wants to test his mettle in the UK.

The unbeaten 22-year-old from Toowoomba, Queensland, represented his country at the 2012 London Olympics and has been itching for a return to the European nation since signing for Hatton Promotions early last year.

This past weekend, he watched his friend and stable mate Lucas Browne capture the Commonwealth title in Sheffield and he feels the time is now right for him to also showcase his skills to a British audience.

“I think I’ve shown my heart and ability in the seven fights I’ve had so far, but I want to test myself further and boxing some European light-heavies would be a good next step,” he said.

“Even though there’s some great boxers here in Oz, getting them to step up and fight me isn’t easy. I’ve already had people pull out at late notice so I think I need to look further afield for a test and where better than the UK?

“My good friend Michael Katsidis went to England to fight Graham Earl a few years back and that really helped his career and, with me having a Brit as a promoter, I think it would be great for me too.

“I caused a bit of controversy when I was at the Olympics, but I found London to be a great place and the people were brilliant so I can’t wait to show them what I can do as a pro.”

Hooper, 7-0 (6 KOs), has barely dropped a round since turning over a year ago and has already won the WBC’s Youth Silver title.
