In front of a full capacity crowd of screaming and cheering boxing fans at the Lansing Convention Center in Lansing, Michigan, Colorado lightweight Adrian “Juanito” Mora (17-0-1 9, KO’s) folded game but outgunned Anthony Ivy (7-11, 3 KO’s) in the second round of their scheduled eight round bout last night.
Mora pressed the action in the opening round, firing combinations at will, set up off of his pristine jab. Ivy, however, weathered the storm and began to stalk Mora only to have to reset and begin again as Mora kept his aggression at bay with his superior movement and stiff counter shots. With just seconds left in the opening round, Mora let his hands go with a sound three-punch combination, followed by a hard left hook to the body that had Ivy wincing in pain.
The second round saw much of the same as Ivy came forward and Mora met him in the middle of the ring to seemingly finish what had begun at the end of round number one. Halfway through round number two, Mora unleashed a brutal double left hook, starting at the head and ending in Ivy’s ribcage, which folded him like a beach chair and on his way down Mora shot a vicious uppercut to cap off the crowd pleasing combination. As the referee reached the count of eight, Ivy was again on his feet and prepared to do battle. However, when the referee signaled the action to begin, Adrian continued firing off shot after shot, punctuated by a huge overhand right sending Ivy to the ropes, followed by the same picture perfect devastating left hook to the midsection of Ivy, who went down for the 10 count at 1:45 of the second round.
“I felt Ivy was a game fighter, much better than I had expected,” Mora said. “His record is very deceiving. I needed a couple fights to get the rust off because I was very inactive last year and now I am ready to fight anyone from 135-140. 2007 will be my year to make my mark on this sport. I have fought tough guys like (Juan Carlos) Rubio and (Steve) Quinonez and you can see I haven’t lost. I am ready to step it up and face whoever they put in front of me.”
Adrian Mora looks to have a busy year in ’07and with his fight anyone attitude and superior technical boxing skills, along with his amazing speed and combination punching, should make him one of the top prospects in boxing to watch.
