Brit Prospects Etches, Jenkins Raise Huge Sum For Charity

The hard work of Steel City boxing pair Adam Etches and Scott Jenkins has helped secure a significant donation for their ‘Let’s KO Cancer’ campaign.

Backed by The Sheffield Star newspaper, the scheme aims to raise awareness and funding for the Teenage Cancer Unit at Weston Park Hospital.

To date, the unbeaten prospects have raised over £20,000 through charity boxing events, sponsored marathons and gruelling bike rides, but new support from Doncaster-based company i-Power Systems could take that figure over £100,000.

i-Power, which has sponsored Etches through much of his career, has given the charity an initial donation of £5,000 and promised to donate a further £50 for every sale of home energy systems it makes this year.

“The support i-Power give me is brilliant. It enables me to concentrate on my boxing career so I’m really pleased and happy that they are willing to support me with this charity,” Etches said.

“Me and Scott are both ambassadors for Weston Park Hospital and to have a big company like i-Power helping us get behind such a fantastic cause can only be a good thing.”

Nigel Wallace, Operations Director of i-Power Systems, said: “With me being a Sheffield-born lad I know all about the work Weston Park does and I thought it would be a great thing to get involved with Adam and Scott and give some assistance towards cancer sufferers.

“Every single order that we receive at i-Power Systems will generate £50 towards the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity. We’ve put this on all our paperwork and we will be raising awareness for the Let’s KO Cancer campaign across the whole of the UK.”

Weston Park Hospital is one of only four specialist cancer hospitals in the whole of England. It treats more than 60,000 patients from across South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire every year.

During 2014 it needs to raise around £2 million to fund a wide range of cancer treatments and invest in care that will allow patients and their families to stay together for longer.

“Adam and Scott’s impact has been phenomenal,” said Samantha Kennedy, Charity Director of Weston Park Hospital’s Cancer Charity. “They’ve worked with the charity as ambassadors for a few years now and they have pledged quite publically to raise over £20,000 through their KO Cancer campaign.

“They’ve done lots of events, they’ve run for us and they’ve recently cycled for us. They’ve looked for many opportunities and also they are great ambassadors when they come to our wards. They’ve been very inspiring and for young people they’ve been great role models.”

i-Power Systems is a national provider of solar energy to domestic and commercial markets. It works tirelessly to make the public aware of the incentives available through the feed-in tariffs.

It’s kind donation and ongoing support will make a huge difference to lives of thousands of cancer patients.
