Boxing Result: Audley Harrison – Danny Williams 2

Upsets Aplenty In London

Last night at the ExCel Arena in London, former Olympic Gold Medallist Audley Harrison resuscitated a career that many in the media had already declared doomed by battering, bloodying and then stopping late replacement opponent and ex-British and Commonwealth Champion Danny Williams within three rounds.

The pair had clashed at the same venue almost a year ago to the day, engaging in largely boring affair that ended with Williams winning the vacant Commonwealth crown and handing Harrison his first career loss.

This time around the towering southpaw didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger, raking Williams with left hands that left the veteran with cuts on the nose in the first and below the left eye in the second.

A shattering left uppercut canvassed Williams in the third before the same punch snapped the Brixton man’s head back hard enough to force stoppage of the bout at 2:32 of the third round.

35 year old Audley Harrison moves to 21-2 (16) while 33 year old Williams drops to 36-6 (29).

In another upset, British Featherweight Champion Andy Morris, 14-1 (4), lost his title and unbeaten record after getting stopped on a bad cut at 2:27 of the fifth round by Scotland’s John Simpson, 14-4 (4), during a rematch.

Rounding out the bill, big punching WBU Light Middleweight titlist Wayne Alexander, 24-3 (18), was stopped in the first round by French journeyman Serge Vigne, 21-15-2 (9), European Featherweight Champion Nicky Cook, 27-0 (15), outpointed Harry Ramogoadi, 16-6-2 (3), over eight rounds after his challenge to the now former WBO Champion Scott Harrison fell through and Amir Khan,10-0 (7), down in the seventh won his first ten round bout in a thriller with feather fisted French light welter Rachid Drilzane, 10-4 (0).
