KO Artist Erickson Lubin Added To Pittsburgh Show

ByBoxing Press 13/11/2014

Calling from the final days of a two-month long training camp in South Florida, undefeated junior middleweight prospect Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin is anxious for his return to the ring this Friday, November 14 at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Fighting in one of the featured bouts at “The Pride of Pittsburgh II”, Lubin will face battle tested Mexican veteran Norberto “Demonio” Gonzalez in a scheduled eight round contest.

Sporting a record of 7-0-0 with six knockouts, the 19-year-old Lubin, a favorite for 2014’s “Prospect of the Year”, has impressed fans and media across the country this year with his crunching knockout power in both hands.

Combining his show stopping knockouts with his world-class skills, Lubin has become a must-see attraction.

“Erickson’s got the ‘it’ factor” said promoter Mike Tyson of Iron Mike Productions. “Having been around the sport for over 30 years I can tell when a fighter is special. We were impressed with him coming out of the amateurs and in his six fights this year the fans have loved him.”

“It’s been a big year, getting to travel and perform in front of big crowds across the country” said the southpaw Lubin. “But I’m actually looking to fight more often in 2015. Ten times would be perfect.”

About his training in preparation for Gonzalez, Lubin stated, “This has been my longest camp, over two months. But I’ve had great sparring in Colorado Springs with [world champion] Terence Crawford and Sammy Vasquez Jr.

“The longer camp also gave me time to increase my arsenal, both on offense and defense. I know Gonzalez is a big step up for me but I’m ready for it.”

Erickson is returning to Consol Energy Center where he dismantled Francisco Javier Reza with a first round stoppage on August 8.

A native of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, the 33-year-old Gonzalez has compiled a record of 20-5-1 (13KO’s) over his seven-year career. Included among the names on his ledger are Jermall Charlo, Roberto Garcia and Yudel Johnson.

“The Pride of Pittsburgh II” is headlined by a 10-round WBC Fecarbox Welterweight Title clash between Pittsburgh’s Sammy “The Who Can Mexican” Vasquez Jr., 16-0-0 (12KO’s), and Panamanian veteran Alberto “Metralleta” Mosquera, 21-1-2 (14KO’s).

Co-featured is a terrific 10-round cross-town battle for the WBC Fecarbox Lightweight Title between local favorite Monty Meza-Clay, 36-3-0 (22KO’s), and rival “Lightning” Rod Salka, 19-4-0 (3KO’s).

Advance tickets for “The Pride of Pittsburgh II”, starting at $42 are available through the Dick’s Sporting Goods Box Office at Consol Energy Center, Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets or charge by phone at 800-745-3000. Doors will open on the night of the event at 6:00 p.m. with the first bell at 7:00 p.m.

Consol Energy Center is located at 1001 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, 15219. Further information can be located at their website, www.consolenerycenter.com
