Santos To Ref Fight, USA, Japan, UK Dominate Rankings

Melva Santos will be the authority in the ring for the Liliana Palmera vs. Alys “La China” Sánchez fight on Friday, February 6, at the Coliseum Mario de León Guzmán, in Cereté, Colombia.

Palmera will defend for the first time her WBA Interim Super Bantam belt she won on the scorecards against Venezuelan Ana Lozano in October.

Sánchez won her last fight by majority decision over Claudia Muñoz, in December in Venezuela, after losing in May by KO against the Mexican Jackie Nava for the WBA Super Bantam championship.

“La China” Sánchez (13-2-1, 4 KO) and Palmera (23-11-3, 15 KO) will have Santos as the referee, while the judges will be Héctor Afu and Víctor Simons (PAN) together with César Ramos (PUR). The supervisor will be Francisco Piña.

The former champion is scheduled to arrive in Colombia on Monday, February 2.

With 31 entries, the United States remains as the country with the largest number of boxers in the ratings of the WBA.

Behind America there are 21 Japanese and 17 Brits, while México occupies fourth place together with the Philippines with 14 rated boxers.

Thailand, Dominican Republic and Australia each have 11 rated boxers. There are also 9 Colombians and Venezuelans, while South Africa and Puerto Rico have 7 boxers each.

As for percentages, North America tops the continents with 43.72 %, while there is 23.48 % from Asia, 22.67 % from Europe, 5.26 % from Oceania and finally, 4.86 % from Africa.
