Coldwell Says Tom Doran Could Be The One

Dave Coldwell will be ringside for next weekend’s Prizefighter which comes to us from Blackpool’s atmospheric Winter Gardens. The tournament has provided both good and bad memories for Coldwell before today and the boxing multi-tasker will be hoping for positive fortune as his entertaining charge, Tom Doran, aims to establish himself onto the domestic scene with a triumphant showing.

The Connah Quay star was once on the verge of a domestic title tilt following a stunning one round blowout of Max Maxwell in 2011, but a lengthy break from the sport has seen Doran fall behind in the queue and Coldwell is well aware that an epic showing in Prizefighter this coming Saturday can elevate the popular Welshman to the heights he once occupied.

“Prizefighter has been the reason for many careers getting a sudden boost and this Saturday is no different for Doran,” revealed Coldwell. “I’ve been impressed with his attitude since we got together and I know he’ll give it his all on Saturday night.

“He’s a well-supported lad and he can look after himself in the ring. The field is wide open for Prizefighter this weekend and there’s a few names I’ve got my eye on as threats to Tom but I’m certain he’ll be considered a threat by every other fighter on the night and he certainly has the punch to shock people early.

Coldwell’s previous flirtations with Prizefighter have included excellent showings by Chad Gaynor and Nav Mansouri but the coveted trophy has always been a step too far for his fighters. With Doran protecting an unbeaten ledger, he heads into battle not knowing how to lose as a professional and if he keeps that record intact then Coldwell Boxing will have their first Prizefighter champion. With no outstanding candidate amongst the entrants, Coldwell is adamant that his man has a serious chance of glory.

“Tom deserves to be amongst the favourites as he’s done everything expected of him as a pro so far and that includes getting off the floor to win. You have the likes of Cello Renda and Craig Cunningham in there and they both bring different qualities but I’m sure they look at Tom and think the same about him. It’s a real live affair and it’s going to be hard picking a winner but I’m more than happy with Tom and I think he could be the one on Saturday night.”
