Can The Freddy Roach Effect Boost Manny Pacquiao?

In his corner on May 2, Manny Pacquiao will have the hopes of the Filipino nation but also the council of a man who has faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. once before.

Freddy Roach, who has been Pacquiao’s trainer for over 15 years now, has also been in Oscar De La Hoya’s corner when he fought “Money” Mayweather Jr. on May 2, 2007.

According to Roach, his experience against the undefeated American welterweight will be a big help in constructing a successful strategy for Pacquiao to utilize in the super fight.

In 2007, Mayweather Jr. preserved his perfect record with a split decision victory over the “Golden Boy.” The final judge’s scorecards read: 116-112, 115-113, 113-115. The De La Hoya vs. Mayweather Jr. bout is considered by many as the last great boxing match in modern times.

Roach has mentioned to the media in the years following that he thought that fight should have been a draw. In more recent interviews, Roach mentioned that facing Mayweather Jr. before has enabled him to have some insight into the mechanics of the undefeated fighter.

Roach added that he is watching tapes from more recent Mayweather Jr. bouts to construct a “complete gameplan” against the fighter commonly called the “Pretty Boy.”

The fight takes place on May 2, 2015 at the MGM Grand Resort in Las Vegas Nevada. he price for the pay-per-view showing has been announced at $89.95 with an expected $10 surcharge for high definition.

This fight is expected to generate the highest pay-per-view buys in boxing history.
