Pro Boxing Returns To Cape Cod With August 8 Fight Card

Hyannis native Jesse Barboza (9-1-1, 5 KO’s) is coming home to headline a pro boxing event August 8 at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center (HYCC) as he takes on Pennsylvania’s Jesse Oltmanns (10-5, 7 KO’s) in an eight round fight for the vacant Northeast Heavyweight Championship.

Barboza, a 2004 graduate of Barnstable High School where he excelled on the football field as a Fullback and Linebacker for the Red Raiders, will be fighting for the first time as a professional in front of his hometown crowd. It will also be his first main event and first pro fight for a title of any kind.

“I am extremely excited to fight in Hyannis,” said Barboza of his homecoming fight. “I think every fighter when they start fighting wants to comeback and fight in their hometown. I’ve gotten so used to fighting two hours away from home that I can’t wait to fight with my home crowd behind me.”

Standing across the ring from him when the bell rings will be Bartonsville, PA native Jesse Oltmanns. Oltmanns represents Barboza’s most stern test as a pro fighter thus far.

He has previously fought current WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KO’s) and former cruiserweight world title challenger Matt Godfrey (21-3, 11 KO’s).

“I’m looking forward to fighting in beautiful Cape Cod in the heart of summer,” said Oltmanns. “I don’t think Jesse Barboza is going to show me anything I haven’t seen before, but I can show him some things he’s never seen before. I just want to make sure that belt is adjustable to large because I’ll be coming home with the title.”

“Jesse Oltmanns is a tough guy,” admitted Barboza of his opponent. “The only time I’ve seen him lose is against some of the best fighters in this profession. I’m looking forward to this challenge, and I don’t expect it to be easy, but I want to see where I’m at as a pro fighter against a respected veteran who’s fought some of the best.”

The event will be presented by Boston Boxing Promotions. It will be the first professional boxing event held in Hyannis since 2006.
