Year Of The Uncrowned Champ
On February 10 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, Luis Collazo takes on Shane Mosley in a 12 round fight for the Interim WBC Welterweight title. Collazo is coming off a TKO win over Artur Atadzhanov in November and most notably of late, lost to Ricky Hatton in a controversial decision that cost him the WBA Welterweight title.
SaddoBoxing: How are you feeling about this fight against Shane Mosley?
Luis Collazo: “I’m real excited. I love the opportunity in my hands. I’m going to make the most of it.”
SB: I, like a lot of fans, thought that you beat Ricky Hatton. Is it difficult to rebound from a fight you know in your heart that you won?
LC: “Well, you know, thanks to the fans, they motivated me to move on. It was a big fight that made me stronger.”
SB: On to the fight on the tenth of February, Shane Mosley is older but still pretty fast and stronger at 147 than 154. What’s your game plan?
LC: “I got nothing to prove. I’m gonna go in and do what I do best. I perform at the elite level.”
SB: Are you planning on a full 12 rounds or are you going to KO him?
LC: “I go with the flow. I’m ready to go 12 rounds if I have to, to get the big W”.
SB: Are there any belts at stake?
LC: “This is an interim fight; I’m considered the people’s champ, the uncrowned champ. On February 10, I feel like I’m defending the title”.
SB: Are you looking at any of the other title holders down the line?
LC: “To be honest, my main focus is on Mosley. I’m going to be on top of my game. 2007 is my year”.
SB: There are a lot of interesting fights to be had between 140 and 154. Any chance of moving up or down?
LC: “My main goal is to be crowned at 147. I’m my best at 147. I have no plans on moving up.”
SB: Thanks for your time, Mr. Collazo. Good luck on February 10.
LC: “Thanks for having me, man.”
