Shane Mosley and Luis Collazo both weighed in at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds today in anticipation of their WBC Interim title fight tomorrow night at The Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV.
Slick southpaw Collazo, 27-2 (13), will be a solid test to see if the 35 year old Mosley still has what it takes to compete at the championship level. Collazo recently held the WBA Welterweight title before losing a controversial decision to England’s Ricky Hatton in May of last year.
Mosley, 43-4 (37), last held the WBC Welterweight title in 2001 but has since been fighting mostly in the 154 pound weight class. The Pomona, CA native feels that the welter division is a more natural weight for him and says he’s faster than ever.
Light welterweights Vivian Harris, 27-2-1 (18), and Juan Lazcano, 37-3-1 (27), both weighed in at the 140 pound limit. The co-main event also is an intriguing bout with the Guyanian native Harris’s physical size and booming right hand pitted against the tough, experienced Mexican.
The Golden Boy Promotions event will be live on HBO World Championship Boxing, starting at 6:45pm PST/9:45pm EST.
