Exclusive Boxing Interview: Kelvin “Koncrete” Davis

At just 5 foot 9 inches tall, Kelvin “Koncrete” Davis, 24-4-2 (17), has had to overcome long odds during his eight year career as a boxer, competing as a heavyweight before winning a world title in the cruiserweight division in 2004.

Saddoboxing recently had the opportunity to speak with the former IBF Champion who will face “The Ding-A-Ling-Man”, Darnell Wilson, 20-5-3 (17), on the February 23 installment of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, live from the newly renovated CYC Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

SaddoBoxing: How is training going?

Kelvin Davis: “Good. Training is going really good.”

SB: You’re fighting Darnell Wilson on February 23; how much do you know about him?

KD: “I know that he throws punches. I’m not worried. This is my 31st professional fight and I am really not all that worried.”

SB: Your weight has varied between 189 and 234 as you have been jumping between cruiserweight and heavyweight; are you looking to campaign as a cruiser or at heavy?

KD: “Heavyweight. I am a natural Heavyweight and that is where I want to be. I am undefeated at heavyweight and I feel better there.”

SB: You have been staying extremely active and this fight is going to be your fifth bout in eight months…

KD: “Sixth. It is going to be my sixth. I was supposed to fight Ernest Mateen in September but he didn’t come out of the dressing room. I was in the ring waiting for him and he walked from his dressing room and into his car instead of the ring.”

SB: You brother Kelly is your trainer, what have you two been working on in the last year?

KD: “I have been working on getting my mental right. I have been getting my head in the right place and focusing on winning the heavyweight title.”

SB: Who would you like a shot at?

KD: “Any of the champs. Valuev or any of the current heavyweight camps. I am a traveling fighter, I will go to their hometown and fight. Jean Marc Mormeck too I would like to fight him. Any champ, any place, any time.”

SB: So Valuev would be the man that you would most want?

KD: “Yeah. Valuev is the champ and he is the biggest, what could be bigger than that?

SB:Thanks for your time Kelvin and I look forward to the fight on February 23.

KD: “Thanks.”
