Once Upon A Time In The West: Championship Boxing

ByBoxing Press 06/04/2016

Once-Upon-A-Time-In-The-West

Frome boxer Ryan Wheeler has been fighting since childhood and knows what to do when the going gets tough. Ryan was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of four and fought back from adversity to make a full recovery.

Since then Ryan has dedicated himself to boxing and fought over 60 fights as an amateur before turning professional. Ryan teamed up with Bristol boxing manager Chris Sanigar in 2015 and is on a three fight winning streak after boxing to a draw in his debut.

“I am lucky really. Every time training gets tough I think about what I have overcome and it makes me push harder. It’s all about maintaining a healthy lifestyle by training, eating healthily and staying on the right track. As a professional boxer that is now more important than ever especially when you can see what can be achieved if you put the hard work in.”

“I am learning all the time at Bristol Boxing Gym and sparring world champion Lee Haskins during training camps has given me that extra drive. So far in my life I have beaten cancer and now I want to become a champion in the ring.”

Outside of the ring Ryan coaches young people in his home town of Frome and believes it is important to give something back.

“Boxing is something which has given my life a real purpose and direction, everyone knows the benefits of how it can help young kids and if I can be a part of that in my local area then all the better. I have some great supporters in Frome and they have really helped me on my journey so far.”

Wheeler will have his 5th professional fight at the Action Indoor Sports, Whitchurch on April 16th as part of a bumper show promoted by Sanigar Events.

Unbeaten light heavyweight prospect Hasan Karkardi originally from Iran now based out of Bristol will feature as the headline attraction on the show. He will challenge Newcastle’s Scott Westgarth for the International Light Heavyweight Challenge Belt.

Westgarth is no stranger to Bristol boxers having stopped his last two Bristol foes Lee Nutland and Krystian Nadolski. Karkardi who is unbeaten in 6 contests will want to avenge his stablemates with a statement win and snatch the first title of his professional career.

The undefeated Bristol Boy’s David Bailey, Tim Cutler and Duane ‘Gas Man’ Winters will all feature looking to extend their unbeaten records. Hometown favourite Dan Sarkozi will also box alongside Jack Budge of Lambourn who will make his debut on the show. Weston’s Liam ‘Raging Bull’ Hunt and Cheddar’s Henry Smith complete the line up in what promises to be an all action event.

Tickets for the April 16th show are priced at £30 Unreserved seating, £40 Ringside and £50 & £60 VIP Tables including food are available from Sanigar Events on 0117 949 6699. Under 16’s accompanied by an adult tickets are £10.

That was just the truth. Yes, Itauma has great power. But Filip was in there training with, arguably, the hardest hitter the division has ever seen. He could never be afraid of Itauma. That was a critical mental edge Filip had over Itauma. 5 posts - 4 participants Read full topic […]
