Selby British Title Challenge Added To Haskins vs. Morales

Wales’ former Olympian and AIBA World Silver Medalist Andrew Selby will bid to become a British champion in only his fifth professional bout, a Welsh record, on Saturday May 14 at Cardiff’s brand new Ice Arena Wales, when he takes on Leicestershire’s former English champion Louis Norman for the vacant British flyweight title.

This exciting title bout is part of a huge undercard to Lee Haskins’ first defence of his IBF bantamweight title against Mexico’s Ivan Morales live on Channel 5.

Also featuring on the stacked Cyclone Promotions bill in Cardiff is Mountain Ash’s Tony Dixon, who bids for his first professional title against Belfast’s 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Paddy Gallagher, in a genuine 50/50 contest for the vacant BBBofC Celtic welterweight championship.

Cyclone Promotions founder and former world featherweight champion Barry McGuigan is excited by both of these domestic title fights on this huge night of boxing in the Welsh capital.

Undefeated Andrew Selby is on a mission to become Wales’ next world champion. The gifted twenty-eight year old is determined to follow in the footsteps of his famous older brother Lee, the IBF featherweight champion.

On May 14 at the Ice Arena Wales, the younger Selby challenges for the vacant British flyweight title against Leicestershire’s Louis Norman, 11 – 1 – 1, in only his fifth professional contest. Victory for the man from Barry, Wales, would give Selby the Welsh record for the fewest bouts taken to win a British title.

In another intriguing title bout on the undercard of Haskins v Morales, Mountain Ash’s undefeated Tony Dixon faces off against Belfast’s Paddy Gallagher for the vacant Celtic welterweight belt. The teak tough twenty-three year old Dixon, 7 – 0, takes a step up in class against 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Gallagher, 9 – 2, in an exciting ten-round contest between two all-action fighters.

The undercard for Haskins v Morales will be screened live and exclusively on Spike (Freeview, BT TV, Talk Talk channel 31; FreeSat channel 141; Sky channel 160) on May 14. Haskins v Morales, IBF bantamweight title fight, will be screened live and exclusively on Channel 5.
