The main event of a seven-bout card is a highly anticipated fight-fans’ dream match-up between streaking Mexico City-born superstars, World Boxing Council (WBC)/The Ring magazine super bantamweight champion Israel Vazquez and International Boxing Federation/International Boxing Organization (IBF/IBO) bantamweight titleholder Rafael Marquez.
The 12-round bout between Vazquez (41-3, 31 KOs), universally recognized as the most talented and exciting in the world at 122 pounds, and the hard-hitting Marquez (36-3, 32 KOs), the planet’s most feared boxer-slugger at 118, will be for Vazquez’s belt.
Vazquez has won nine in a row, seven by knockout. He is managed by Frank Espinoza and promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions. Marquez, a winner of 15 straight, 12 by knockout, is promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, LLC, and Romanza Productions.
In the co-main event, GSP’s popular, pint-sized powerhouse, undefeated, hard-hitting southpaw IBF/IBO flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (26-0, 21 KOs) defends against former IBF champion and current top-ranked contender Victor Burgos (39-14-3, 23 KOs).
The live program will begin at 4 p.m. Doors open at 3:30. Darchinyan-Burgos will go at 6 o’clock, followed by Vazquez-Marquez. The world championship fights will be televised on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).
