“Silent” Sam Evans Wants To Make Some Noise Sunday

Quiet man Sam Evans is determined to make some noise when he returns to the ring this weekend.

The softly spoken welterweight, who is trained by Ricky Hatton, isn’t one to shout his mouth off and prefers to let his fists do the talking.

But he wants to make a huge statement of intent against grizzled veteran Kevin McCauley in Cannock on Sunday afternoon.

“I don’t like to say too much but I think I have the kind of style that the fans like and I want to make a real statement on the 24th,” Sam, 4 – 0 (1 KO), said.

“I’m an aggressive, come forward fighter and I believe I always put on a good, exciting, show so hopefully this weekend I’ll give everyone watching something to talk about.

“I’ve had the perfect camp with Ricky. I’ve been working hard in the sessions with him in the mornings and then putting in extra runs with [stable mate] Reuben Arrowsmith in the evenings so I can’t wait to see everything come together.”

The 20-year-old West Midlander only turned professional last October but, with four paid contests already under his belt, he admits that he has an eye on title opportunities in the next 12 months.

“I’ve been fighting quite often since turning pro and I’m happy to get as many under my belt as I can before looking for titles in 2017,” he said.

“I’m only 20 so I’ve got plenty of time on my side and I’m happy to take the fights as they come, but everyone wants to get belts around their waist and with the speed Ricky is bringing me along, I think I could be looking at something as early as next year.”

This Sunday’s bill is entitled ‘Danger Zone’ and takes place at the Chase Leisure Centre in Cannock, Staffordshire. Top of the bill is the eagerly anticipated English super-lightweight title clash between Anthony Upton and Luke Paddock.

In addition to Evans, fellow Ricky Hatton-trained prospects Sonny Upton and Reuben Arrowsmith are in action on the undercard. Also featured are English super-bantamweight champion Sean Davis, Swadlincote super-middleweight Zach Parker, Burton’s Leon Gower, Derby debutant Sahib Singh Mann, and former world kickboxing champion Chad Sugden.
