–Commonwealth Shot Is A Career Launch Pad-

ByHatton Promotions 27/08/2016

Cameron “The Hammer” Hammond believes his vacant Commonwealth welterweight title clash with Jack Brubaker will put him on the road to stardom.

The Aboriginal ace, 26, faces “The Ripper” in what will be the first Commonwealth tussle between two Aussies for more than 15 years at the Olympic Sports Park in Sydney on October 29.

And he believes victory could propel him into the 147 lb division’s big league.

“This is the fight I’ve been waiting for and I’m really looking forward to it. I know it’s a tough fight but I’m going to be ready,” Hammond, 16-0 (8 KOs), said.

“I see this fight as really launching my career forward in a big way. I’ll be preparing for 12 hard rounds. I want to thank my team for getting me into this position, especially Ricky [Hatton], who signed me after the 2012 Olympics. I can’t wait!”

Brubaker has earned a reputation as a fearless fighter capable of scoring an upset thanks to surprise victories over Paddy Murphy and Japan’s Suyon Takayama.

But Hammond’s manager Matt Clark is confident that his man has the tools to score a famous win.

“Brubaker is coming off a huge win in Japan but I know Cameron has the speed, power and footwork to get the job done,” Clark stated.

“We haven’t seen the best of Cameron Hammond yet as a professional. I’m confident we will on October 29. He’s been flying under the radar a little bit but he’s about to be unleashed and I think fight fans are going to love what they see.

“This will be the first time two Australians have contested the Commonwealth welterweight title since Julian Holland beat Shannan Taylor in 2001. It’s an enormous fight for Cameron and one that we are confident he’s going to win.”
