Frank Maloney Promotions Announces Spring Schedule

ByBoxing Press 05/03/2007

Frank Maloney Promotions announces three high level fight cards this spring that will bring compelling bouts to British fight fans in both the London and Manchester areas over the next two months.

The first promotion features sharply skilled bantamweight Ian Napa, who will attempt to land in the world rankings by challenging long reigning European champion Simone Maludrottu at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, London on Friday, March 9, 2007

The lightning quick, five foot one inch tall Napa knows that it’s his chance for a little man to become a big man, and he will throw the dice, looking to come up trumps in his effort to gatecrash the world scene.

With a win over Maludrottu, the Hackney based Zimbabwea native would become the number one bantamweight in the UK and instead of chasing British champion Martin Power, Napa will have Power chasing him for the European title.

Napa and Power are two reasons why the bantamweight scene in England is very lively at the moment. The re-emergence of former IBO super flyweight and British/Commonwealth flyweight champion Jason Booth as a bantam has only strengthened the weight class.

Hard as nails British light middleweight champion Jamie Moore will also feature on the Napa – Maludrottu card as the Manchester man begins his return from an injury suffered during the ferocious knockout of courageous Irish champion Matthew Macklin in September of last year.

Moore will top the bill in his hometown for the second fight card, which takes place on April 13 at the Carnell Leisure Centre in Altrincham, Manchester. The hard punching southpaw has achieved much at both domestic and Commonwealth level and is looking for a world title fight by the end of this season.

The third fight card takes place on April 27 at London’s Wembley Arena and sees David Haye step into the ring to start his campaign at heavyweight. “The Hayemaker” is in action while awaiting the opportunity to fight the winner of the O’Neil Bell – Jean Mormeck WBC/WBA cruiserweight title fight taking place in Paris on March 17.

Haye will be ringside in Paris before going off to training camp for a final five weeks of hard preparation in order to face bruising Polish heavyweight Tomasz Bonin on April 27.

Also on the card, unbeaten 6 foot 7 inch heavyweight knockout artist Scott Belshaw will go for win number five in as many fights. “I like finishing ’em off nice and early because Frank doesn’t pay me overtime,” said the ruthless Irishman with a killer instinct after dispatching Ukrainian opponent Makhmud Otazhanov this past January.

These three events are proof that Frank Maloney Promotions has come a long way in a short period of time and are now in position to challenge the main players in the British fight game.

Frank Maloney Promotions present “When Opportunity Knocks”, the Ian Napa – Simone Maludrottu European bantamweight championship on Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, London.

Tickets are available by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling the Box Office at 0871 226 1508. Sky Sports will televise on SS2 at 22:00. Tickets to the April 13 and April 27 fight cards will be available soon. For further information, please call 0208 691 4165.
