Undefeated heavyweight contender Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson (13-0, 5KO) made his South Carolina debut a memorable one, crushing journeyman Curtis Taylor via 1st round KO, Thursday night at the Plex in North Charleston, SC.
“I hit this dude with my jab and his fighting spirit flew right out of him” said Johnson. “Once I moved my attack to his body it was game over”
Earlier in the month, Johnson offered to step-in for the ill Shannon Briggs and face Sultan Ibragimov at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately for boxing fans, Johnson’s offer went unanswered. But The Kingpin is still on the move in “07
“Johnson fought six-times in ’06, and he dominated everyone we’ve put in him with,” stated Star Boxing CEO Joe DeGuardia. “Johnson is a versatile fighter who’s on the cusp of becoming a world champion.”
“Shannon Briggs, Malik Scott, Sultan Ibragimov, Tye Fields – man I can beat any of these guys right now,” said Johnson—a man never at a loss for words. “I’ve been sparring with Alexander Povetkin and other world- class fighters—I’m always ready for a fight”
Johnson’s next ring appearance comes on Sunday April 22nd at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.
