“Dangerous” Ted Bami turned back Guiseppe “The End” Lauri last night on a Matchroom Promotions card at the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley, England and retained his European Light Welterweight crown for the first time.
This was the second occasion that Bami has beaten Lauri but the Italian visitor didn’t make it easy on the Congo born Brixton resident Bami.
Lauri found out early on that he wasn’t able to shift the resolute champion from full focus with punches so the visitor pulled out every trick in the Italian fighter handbook in an attempt to distract Bami and influence referee Manuel Palomo.
Bami did have a point taken away in the eighth frame for illegal use of the head but when the bout ended after 12 long rounds, the British fighter retained his title via scores of 118-112, 117-110 and 116-111.
Bami moves to 22-2 (11) while Lauri drops to 42-6 (24).
Also on the bill, ex-triple super bantamweight champion Michael Hunter made a succsessful return from his failed IBF title bid against Steve Molitor with an eight round drubbing of the durable Ben Odamattey.
WBF Cruiser Champ Gyorgy Hidvegi retained his belt with a 12 round unanimous decision over seasoned campaigned Ismail Abdoul.
Former IBO Light Welter titlist Colin Lynes saw off Arel Malek via a second round referee stoppage.
