European Boxing News: Mogens Palle Offers Joe Calzaghe $5 Million To Face Mikkel Kessler

Danish paper Berlingske writes that Mogens Palle have offered Frank Warren no less than five million USD for WBO Super Middle champ Joe Calzaghe to face WBA and WBC counterpart Mikkel Kessler in Copenhagen in September or later.

Warren had previously went public with an offer for three million USD for Kessler to face Calzaghe in July in the UK but Palle tells Berlingske the proposed contract didn’t arrive until yesterday and that he wasn’t impressed with what he read.

Francisco Nohales and Sergio Palomo clash in what for now is an eliminator for the Spanish 130 lb title May 8 in Barcelona. The fight could be upgraded to championship level soon as the champ, Oscar Sanchez Sandoval, is injured.

In supporting bouts, Danish super middle Mads Larsen, now with Sauerland Event, return to action and junior welter prospect Ali Chebah take on local man David Racaj. The show is promoted by R2 Image and Events along with Tundra vs Barcelo.

Norwegian juunior welter Geir Inge Jorgensen faces Frenchman Fabrice Colombel for the inuagural WBC Mediterranean title June 15 in Torrevieja, Spain. The show is promoted by the Torrevieja Boxing Club, headed by John Ruud. Heavyweight Leif Dolonen Larsen returns after a lengthy layoff on the undercard.

Cuban heavy Odlanier Solis have been sparring with US veteran Vaughn Bean at the Arena Box Promotion gym in Hamburg, Germany. Solis make his pro debut April 27 at the very same place.

Spotlight Boxing and Pro Sieben join forces again for the third “Fight Night” May 25 in Cologne, Germany. Headlining the bill are WBA Female Flyweight champ Susianna Kentikian and WBO Intercontinental titleholder at middleweight Sebastian Zbik. Junior lightweight Vitali Tajbert get a good test from Peter Petrov, a Russian fighting out of Spain, in the chief support.

European Super Bantam champ Bernard Dunne will make a voluntary defence of the title June 23 in Dublin. The EBU homepage reports that Norwegian Reidar Walstad is the opponent. Reidar´s father Robert confirms that there have been talks but no agreement has been reached.

EE-EU junior middle titleholder Ivan Gontsa from Moldova take on Roman Dzuman in Lvov, Ukraine, June 5.
