Danish super featherweight prospect Kim “Golden Boy” Poulsen will join stablemate Fawaz Nasir on the SES-show in Oranienburg, Germany on May 12. This will be Poulsen’s fifth pro fight, and his first since wrongly being denied victory over Frenchman Tony Jourda on April 18 in London, England.
That night, Poulsen boxed considerably below normal standard, but most observers still felt he deserved to win. In Oranienburg Poulsen will fight an opponent to be announced over four rounds.
The 20-year-old Dane is exited to return to the ring less than a month after the Jourda disappointment, and plans to use the bout to rebound in style:
“I boxed terrible last time in London, and didn’t do any of the things we had trained for, so now I want to put on a good and disciplined performance, regardless of who the opponent will be. If the knockout comes, it comes, but it will only come after I have boxed like I am being taught in the gym.
“For some reason I deviated from everything last time, so now I am focused on showing my trainer and manager the good, stylish boxing I am supposed to bring every time,” says Poulsen.
Manager Henrik Risum admits that the disputed loss to Jourda has been tough to swallow, but also points out how important it is to turn a bad situation into something positive in the long run:
“Kim didn’t deserve to loose in London, but we cant deny the fact that he boxed terrible. We all know he had a bad night, and did everything wrong, so (trainer) Brian Mathiasen and myself have used a lot of time making sure he understands that having a bad night is no shame, but not learning from your mistakes is! If Kim have learned from April 18, which I am sure he have, then he will be stronger in the future.”
Risum reveals that a rematch with Tony Jourda is a big priority for later in the year, but that it won’t materialize before he feels the time is exactly right:
“I want Kim to have a few more learning-fights after this coming fight on May 12, and then I think he will be ready to fight Jourda again in the fall, box him the right way, and show everybody that Tony got a lucky break last time.”
