European Boxing News:

By Per Ake Persson

Former WBC Light Heavy champ Tomasz Adamek will return to action June 9 in Katowice, Ploand. Adamek has had a lot of problems lately with allegations of doping and criminal activities, but no proofs have been presented.

Belgian supermiddle Djamel Selini is also on the bill as well as veteran cruiser Wojicech Bartnik. Katowice will thus be hit by two major shows in two weeks as on May 26 IBF Champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk take on Steve Cunningham in a defence of the cruiser title. Heavyweight Andrew Golota could be back on the undercard.

It’s been reported by German tabloid Bild that heavies Luan Krasniqi and Tony Thompson clash July 14 in Hamburg in the headliner of a another big Universum show.

Junior welter Juho Tolppola headlines P3 Boxing’s show in Helsinki, Finland that now goes ahead May 18 instead of May 4 as it was originally on for. Also on the bill are Swedish Junior welter Vatche Wartanian, comebacking heavy Sami Elovaara and Russian welter Dennis Shafikov.

The BDB, the German Federation that holds the all-important EBU membership, have been sued by the other two Federations, the GBA and the GBO, active in Germany at the moment over a cancelled WBC Youth title fight.

In a confusing situation, it appears that the WBC didn’t want to recognize a fight between Haxhi Krasniqi and Sebastian Wille at light heavy for its Youth title on grounds that the GBA and GBO aren’t members of the EBU.

The GBA/BO claims that the BDB have intervened and caused the WBC to withdraw its recognition of the fight. Previously, the BDB and the GBA/BO made an agreement with the BDB in regards of international title fights.

Female fly Simona Gassi will now take on German Bettina Volker for the vacant European title May 11 in Forli.

R2 Image & Events / Tundra vs Barcelo’s promotion May 8 that headlines with Sergio Palomo vs. Francisco Nohales with Mads Larsen and Ali Chebah on the undercard has been moved from Barcelona to Guadalajara.

Italian junior welter Giorgio Marinelli stays busy with a tuneup fight May 11 in Fiumcino against Hungarian Bela Sandor and will then take on Rachid Mokhtari for the IBF International 140 lb title June 8 in Rome.

Innuendo Promotions will stage a big K1/thai boxing show in Stockholm, Sweden on May 19 but have scrapped the plans to put on two professional boxing matches on the same bill.

European Bantam champ Simone Maludrottu’s defence against Belgian Carmelo Ballone has been postponed from June 3 to June 22 but remains in La Louviere.

Comebacking heavyweight Andrew Golota will now join light heavy Tomasz Adamek on June 9 in Katowice along with lightweight Matt Zegan, Wojicech Bartnik and Mariusz Cendrowski.

Adamek´s contract has, according to a Polish paper, been bought by a Swiss company from Don King Productions for 750,000 USD. Golota is then said to have received 250,000 USD to join this show and not fight on Hammer Knockout´s May 26 show, also in Katowice.
