European Middleweight Champ Amin Asikainen´s defence against Sebastian Sylvester that was set for Bamberg May 26 has again been postponed as Sylvester suffers from a bad cold. Pekka Maeki, Asikainen´s trainer and promoter, says he was informed Monday of Sylvester´s illness. “I didn´t know that being scared is a medical term” comments Asikainen, who stopped the German in eighth round sback in June of last year.
Sauerland Event won purse bids for Askainen vs Sylvester II in the fall of last year and have had it scheduled and postponed a few times by now.
Asikainen have thus been added to Maeki´s show in Helsinki May 18 and will fight a non-title eight rounder at super middle. Opponent is to be announced.
Asikainen vs Sylvester will now go ahead June 23 in Zwickau, Germany.
Spanish junior lightweight Francisco Nohales came from behind to knock out favored Sergio Palomo in the ten round main event of Tundra vs Barcelo´s show Monday night in Guadalajara, Spain that went out live on EuroSport.
Nohales was outboxed early on but came on strong in the later rounds. Palomo tired and was a spent force going into the tenth and last round and was against the ropes when Nohales connected with a hard right hook.
Palomo went down and was counted out. This was an eliminator for the national title held by Oscar Sanchez Sandoval. In another bout, German super middle Karo Murat outscored Nicolas Perrillo over six.
Polish Hammer Knockout Promotions promote a big show in Katowice, Poland on May 26. Topping the bill is IBF Cruiser Champ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk´s rematch with American Steve Cunningham.
In supporting bouts, welter Rafael Jackiewicz will defend the IBC title against Chilean Joel Mayo. At junior middle, Damian Jonak will go for the WBC Youth interim crown against Michael Shubov, who fights out of Germany. Heavyweight Art Binowski is also on the bill.
Andrew Golota is, as previously reported, off the bill and is scheduled to fight along with Tomasz Adamek in
Katowice on June 9 – a show that is not promoted by Hammer Knockout.
