Potteries promoters Impact Boxing will present women’s professional boxing for the first time at Fenton Manor Sports Complex this evening.
Derby solicitor Juliette Winter will face Yarkor “Chavez’ Annan from Ghana in a super bantamweight contest as part of a seven fight card.
Annan, from the same Bukom gym in Ghana as former WBC super-featherweight champion Azumah Nelson, has won seven of her nine pro bouts to date with three knockout wins and is looking to make a name for herself in Europe. Winter, who recently fought Cathy Brown in an English title contest, has won two of her professional fights so far.
Mick Carney of Impact Boxing said “Its another first for Impact, we have set our stall out to promote exciting events in the Potteries and to provide great value for money to the Stoke public.”
“The verdict is still out on the viability of women’s boxing but were are pleased to give people the opportunity to come and judge for themselves. We still have six top class male bouts featuring local favourites like Jimmy Doherty and Danny Johnston.”
“The future for boxing in the area is bright; Chris Edwards has a rematch scheduled with Dale Robinson for the British and Commonwealth flyweight title, Scott Lawton is working towards another crack at the British lightweight title and Gary Reid continues to impress TV audiences with his devastating knockout victories.”
In addition to Tunstall’s Doherty and Cobridge’s Johnston Imran Khan of Shelton, Aaron Thomas from Alsager and Werrington’s heavyweight prospect Alex Ibbs feature.
